MHFA COURSES

MHFA 2 DAY – MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AIDER
This is an ideal training course for those who want a thorough grounding in mental health first aid.
The course will give delegates the confidence of having studied the topic in greater depth than the 1-day course, with more time to put the skills taught into practical scenarios. There are 3 types of 2-day course available: Adult, Youth and Armed Forces.
MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.
You’ll also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more.
Courses can be delivered face to face over 2 days or online over 4 separate sessions and including a blend of home learning.
Mental Health First Aiders have:
- An understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect people’s well-being, including your own
- Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
- Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
- Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
- Supporting recovery by guiding staff to further support, whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix
